Position Summary

The Managing Director, Multimedia Strategy and Digital Content  serves as an integral senior member of the CPA team in New York. The Managing Director, Multimedia Strategy and Digital Content  oversees the digital strategies for amplifying program communications and campaigns for the Foundation’s core areas of focus—Equity and Economic Opportunity, Food, Health, and Power & Climate. Additional areas of oversight and amplification are cross-cutting priorities, the Pandemic Prevention Institute and the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet.  The Managing Director, Multimedia Strategy and Digital Content works closely with other team members across CPA to provide expert guidance and service, working with program teams to design and launch digital communications and campaigns that advance the goals of each initiative. Most importantly, the person in this role will constantly drive colleagues across the organization (CPA and other teams) to design their digital strategies to be engaging with current and new audiences so the CPA team can better measure the impact of its work. 

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead the development and execution of a global multichannel digital strategy building The Rockefeller Foundation’s global brand, thought leadership and supporting influence strategy 

  • Manage a digital content team of approximately six people 

  • Oversee the development and execution of digital campaigns, including developing additional social media tools, partnerships, and syndication channels with a particular focus on mediums that solicit and share ideas

  • Advise CPA leadership on the best platforms, tools and techniques to achieve the Foundation’s communications goals

  • Select and manage relationships with digital firms and the digital aspects of broader communications firms through grants and contracts in order to advance the Foundation’s initiatives

  • Coordinate with other CPA teams to ensure multiplatform approach to campaign strategy development and execution

  • Oversee and further develop The Rockefeller Foundation’s website, blog and email channels. Ensure a consistent strategy for all web and email properties funded by or connected to The Rockefeller Foundation

  • Sign off on creative design deliverables, video storytelling productions and distribution strategy

  • Ensure digital materials are consistent with strategic goals and brand voice

  • Work with The Rockefeller Foundation staff, managing digital trainings, collaborating with IT  

  • Monitor and report on effective key internal and external digital performance metrics to inform organization decision-making

  • Provide support and counsel to grantees as needed

  • Work with and support managing directors in CPA and the initiative teams

  • Mentor, support and guide staff working across CPA, especially those in the immediate team, in a way that contributes to their future career development wherever it may be

  • Advise on opportunities for thought leadership in the digital space and provide support as needed to CPA colleagues in delivering on those opportunities

  • Represent the Foundation externally as needed

Execution: Strong project management skills, deadline management, sense of responsibility and accountability and the ability to effectively multitask.  Ability to manage contractors to ensure timely, high-quality work product.

Partnership and Relationship Building: Highly collaborative approach, strong professional representation of the Foundation, interpersonal relationship abilities, intercultural knowledge and appreciation, strategic partnership building. 

Decision-Making: Ability to evaluate risks and opportunities, using analytical and strong problem-solving skills.

Integration: Ability to demonstrate inclusiveness, respect and broad organizational interests.

Communication: Strong interpersonal and communication abilities; exceptional listening, written and verbal skills. 

 

Education, Training, and Experience 

 

  • A bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Policy, International Studies or a related field.  Master’s degree a plus

  • At least 15 years communications, advocacy, or campaign experience, including extensive digital communications experience with a solid understanding of, and demonstrable, strategic and practical implementation of significant digital and social media campaigns

  • Strong experience with managing people, programs, projects and budgets and mentoring staff

  • Proven track record in managing complex plans and adhering to deadlines that require coordination across multiple stakeholders 

  • Superb interpersonal skills and professional presence

  • Experience in a client services setting 

  • Strong knowledge base in the communications space and knowledge of industry trends and research

  • A proven ability to think strategically, analyze critically, and to translate ideas and insights into action through coherent and viable programs and plans

  • Experience and/or strong familiarity with nonprofit and public sectors 

  • Team leadership skills, such as flexibility, diplomacy, and listening skills

  • Highly organized, with ability to multitask

  • Deep knowledge of digital trends
