#NYTReadalong | Suzanne McCormick (President and CEO, YMCA)

Updated: Sep 11, 2022

We took a few weeks off, but we’re back with another edition of @Sree’s Sunday #NYTReadalong. Our guest is Suzanne McCormick, the 15th person and first woman to serve as president and CEO of YMCA of the USA. Neil Parekh will be the guest host.

The Y is a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Collectively, the nation’s YMCAs engage 11 million members — 4 million of whom are under the age of 18 — annually. Suzanne just celebrated her one-year anniversary with the Y, after twenty years with United Way (the last two as its U.S. President). We’ll ask her to reflect on what she learned over the past year.

Depending on your browser, you may need to press play when we go live at 8:30am ET.

We’ll also ask Suzanne about “Welcoming Week” at the Y, an effort to welcome new immigrants to communities across the country and the Y’s Youth and Government work, one of the largest youth civic engagement and model government programs in the world.

Founded in London in 1844, the Y has grown into one of the largest organizations focused on strengthening communities in the U.S. and around the world, serving more than 64 million people in 120 countries. In July, Suzanne joined 1200 others for an international conference. We’ll ask her about the Y’s global reach.

We’ll certainly talk about Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away on Thursday after more than 70 years on the throne.

Sunday also marks the twenty-first anniversary of 9/11. We will take time to reflect on that as well.

This week's paper also features the Fall Arts Preview.

We have been reviewing the print edition of the Sunday New York Times for six and a half years.

The show is produced by Digimentors. We produce high-quality virtual and hybrid events for organizations big and small around the world. We also do social and digital consulting, training and workshops.

Neil Parekh is the executive producer and occasional guest host. Paula Kiger helps produce the show, engaging with the audience on Facebook and LinkedIn.
