Our guest on Sree’s Sunday #NYTReadalong is Anna Pakman, a disability rights advocate. She is the writer, director and producer of “Wheelchair Money,” a short five-minute film that was a submission to the 2024 Easter Seals Disability Film Challenge. In addition to talking about the film, we’ll also talk about the representation of people with disabilities in the media. July is Disability Pride Month and the 34th anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disability Act, a historic civil rights law that protects the rights of people with disabilities.
We will be live at 8:30am ET on Sunday morning on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram and our Digimentors website. If you miss the live show, you can always watch it later, on demand.
“Wheelchair Money,” is a buddy movie set in New York City. It focuses on Johnny and his best friend, Whitney. When Johnny’s health insurance refuses to fund a new custom power wheelchair, he and Whitney go on a quest across NYC to sell a prized Beanie toy to pay for the chair themselves encountering inaccessibility and tests to their friendship along the way.
