Our guest on Sree’s Sunday #NYTReadalong is one of Sree’s first students from when he was teaching at Columbia Journalism School, Hanson Hosein. He is now President of HRH Media Group LLC, and Director of a new documentary, “American Dignity.”

The documentary centers on a conversation between a young Black activist and a veteran of the Civil Rights Movement who was with John Lewis at the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma on Bloody Sunday.

The film is playing in Los Angeles this weekend and in NYC starting June 20 at the Cinema Village. Hanson is waking up at 5:30am PT to join the show. Talk about dedication! Sree's looking forward to seeing him when Hanson comes to New York at the end of the month.

We’ve talked about John Lewis several times on the show. I’m particularly excited to talk with Hanson because of my work with the John and Lillian Miles Lewis Foundation for Digimentors. I interviewed Detria Everson, their CEO, back in February. In fact, Hanson and I were both in Selma this March for the 60th Anniversary of Bloody Sunday, but we didn’t know each other yet. He and I know several people in common.

Next Week

  • On June 8, Alison Kosik, freelance reporter and anchor for ABC News and former CNN Business Correspondent will be our guest. She is the author of the recently released “What’s Up With Women and Money?”
