May is Mental Health Awareness Month. On this week’s episode of Sree’s Sunday #NYTReadalong, I am sharing my journey as an advocate and my work to reduce the stigma around mental health. I’ve been co-hosting “Shining Light on Shadows: A Candid Conversation About Mental Health” for more than a year. Recently, I was diagnosed with Adult ADHD. It changed everything I knew about my mental health.
We will be live at 8:30 a.m. ET / 1:30 p.m. GMT / 6:00 p.m. IST (Sunday morning in the US, Sunday afternoon in the UK and Sunday evening in India). If you miss the show, you can always watch the replay, right on this page.
My Story / Adult ADHD

You can read more in a blog post I wrote for #ShiningLightonShadows, “Updating My Diagnosis at 51—It’s Adult ADHD and RSD, Not Anxiety and Depression.”
Apparently, I am not alone. In the U.S., the CDC estimates that 15.5 million adults (6.0%) have been diagnosed with ADHD. Approximately half of these individuals received their diagnosis at age 18 or older.
New research suggests that undiagnosed ADHD may be more common than previously thought, with 25% of adults suspecting they have undiagnosed ADHD, according to a survey by Ohio State Health & Discovery.
Last Week: Prof. Noliwe Rooks, Emily Parekh (NYTKids) and Museums)
On April 27, Professor Noliwe Rooks from Brown University joined the #NYTReadalong for a wide-ranging conversation about the state of American education, the politicization of diversity efforts, and the ongoing battle over historical memory. Click here for that episode.
We also did a special segment on NYT for Kids with Emily Parekh (watch the video) and have .pdfs of the NYT’s two-part special section on Museums.
