Colleges and universities are being bullied. DEI is under attack. The Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of African American History and Culture and other museums are being targeted.
Prof. Noliwe Rooks, Chair of Africana Studies at Brown University, is the guest on Sree’s Sunday #NYTReadalong. She’ll discuss these attacks on education and her book “Integrated: How American Schools Failed Black Children.”
We will be live at 8:30 a.m. ET / 1:30 p.m. GMT / 6:00 p.m. IST (Sunday morning in the US, Sunday afternoon in the UK and Sunday evening in India). If you miss the show, you can always watch the replay, right on this page.
At 10 a.m. ET / 7:30 p.m. IST, Emily Parekh will return to the show to discuss NYT for Kids, a once-a-month print-only special section from The New York Times.
Noliwe Rooks
Professor Rooks’ scholarship explores how race and gender both impact and are impacted by popular culture, social history and political life in the United States.
“Integrated” is about how the implementation of integration/desegregation strategies impacted Black children and communities, and explores four generations of her family history with education in the United States.
NYT for Kids
We will offer a special look at the print-only last-Sunday-of-the-Month NYT for Kids.
Through a special arrangement with The New York Times, we make the .pdf available on our website as a free download between Saturday morning and Sunday at Noon ET.
Every month, on the last Sunday of the month, you can find the .pdf of NYT for Kids on our website until Noon ET on Sunday. Look for that Sunday’s show and click through for the #NYTKids .pdf.
Amber Williams, former editor of New York Times for Kids was a guest on the #NYTReadalong.
NYT Museum Special

The NYT also has a special section on Museums in this weekend’s paper.
It will be particularly interesting to review that report given the current climate and questions about how we tell our story.
Sree’s Sunday Note, "The Global Economy Held Hostage"

In case you missed it, Sree’s latest newsletter focuses on the impact of President Trump’s policies on the global economy and includes a tech tip from Robert Anthony.
